Cognitive Compuetr Seminar Report
Cognitive Computing is a study of top-down, global, unifying theories that explain observed cognitive
phenomena (“mind”), that are consistent with known bottom-up neurobiological facts (the “brain”), that are computationally feasible (for example, implement-able on a BlueGene), and that are mathematically principled. Cognitive Computing is a search for computer science-type software/hardware elements that are consistent with known neurobiological facts about the brain and give rise to observed mental processes of perception, memory, language, intelligence, and, eventually, consciousness. Very simply speaking, Cognitive Computing is when computer science meets neuroscience to explain and implement psychology. We have, in the brain and nervous system, an information processing system unrivalled by artificial means. While it trails machines in accuracy and mathematical computation, it wins on adaptability, flexibility, functionality, and parallelism. The ultimate goal is to reverse engineer enough of this system so that the design principles can be applied to building robust and adaptable computer systems.

Project Glass is the name for Google’s ambitious product that looks to further bridge the gap between the humans and technology via augmented reality. It’s basically a head-mounted device that looks like a pair of trendy glasses and lets you stay connected with the virtual world as you go about tour daily routine using voice commands, or an integrated touchpad. It also comes with a 1-inch display.Once you connect to Wi-Fi, Project Glass will allow you to use features like accessing map directions, send messages, and even let you into Google Hangout video chats. The device comes with an integrated camera that lets you take pictures as well as record videos which canthen be shared in an instant.
Project Glass, the futuristic and ambitious project from Google, aims to in further bridge the gap between technology and the day-to-day life. If it takes off the way it is intended to, it could well be a glimpse of things are going to be in the future. It has opened up the possibilities of a whole new mobile computing world beyond that of the tablets and smartphones. The device, that first appeared in April 2012, was finally unveiled at Google’s I/O 2012 conference by Google co-founder Sergey Brin. The Explorer Edition of the device was displayed here for everyone to get a detailed look at.For those hearing about the device for the first time, Google Glass lets users take pictures, send messages and emails and look up navigation directions without having to reach for their smartphones or tablet devices. Instead, the ultra light-weight Google device that is worn like a regular glass, projects digital content on a transparent display just above the user’s line of
vision- reminds you of the Hollywood Sci-Fi movies, doesn’t it?

SEMINAR ON 3D TV
Our left eye and right eye are two separate lenses, registering two differently-angled images of the mouse, which are then sent to your brain. The brain then acts as the ‘image processor’, putting the two pictures together to come up with one three-dimensional picture in your mind. In computers, 3-D (three dimensions or three-dimensional) describes an image that provides the perception of depth. 3-D Technology has a vision of the future that is a quantum leap beyond current display hardware. It is working to integrate a volumetric display that can satisfy the visualization needs of industries as diverse as military, medicine, science, engineering, education, and entertainment. 3-D image creation can be viewed as a three-phase process of: tessellation , geometry , and rendering 3-D Studio MAX, Softimage 3D, and Visual Reality. The Virtual Reality Modelling Language (VRML ) allows the creator to specify images and the rules for theirs display and interaction using textual language statements

SEMINAR ON ANDROID AND JAVA

Android is a software platform and operating system for mobile devices based on the Linux operating system and developed by Google and the Open Handset Alliance. It allows developers to write managed code in a Java-like language that utilizes Google-developed Java libraries, but does not support programs developed in native code. Android platform consists of a Linux operating system, core libraries of the Java programming language, an Java virtual machine (Dalvik virtual machine), and some key applications (e.g. browser, maps). Dalvik virtual machine (DVM) is a major component of Google‟s Android platform. It is optimized for low memory requirements and is designed to allow multiple VM instances to run at the same time. The virtual machine runs Java applications. However, Dalvik virtual machine is different from standard Java virtual machine in some ways. First, most virtual machines use a stack-based architecture, but Dalvik is a register-based architecture. Second, Dalvik runs Java applications which have been transformed into the Dalvik Executable (.dex) format. These two major differences make Dalvik different from a standard Java virtual machine. Therefore, tools developed on standard Java virtual machines, such as profiling tools, cannot be ported to DVM directly without modification we discuss the development of a profiling tool interface, JVM TI, on Android. With this tool interface, developers can profile their Java code running on Dalvik using JVM TI

The wireless system is being rapidly proliferated in our life. The growing of capacity in wireless communication requires a new type of wireless communication method which does not e®ect current systems. A new system that ful¯lls this requirement is the Ultra-Wide bandwidth (UWB) impulse radio. In addition, the UWB system also promises low power, covert communication, and very high processing gain. In this dissertation, an UWB system which can lead this next generation of communications of an UWB radio is introduced. In this work, the complete front-end of an UWB radio and its components are described in a detailed analysis. The main focus of this work is the design of the UWB system's wide-bandwidth components. In the course of this dissertation, the UWB system, its UWB signal properties and its possible system architecture are described. Based on these system characteristics, required RF components are designed with IBM's Silicon Germanium (SiGe) 0.5 ¹m process and analyzed. Using this technology, the two important front-end functions highlighted in this work are signal ampli¯cation for wide-bandwidth and correlation detection of the signal.xii Theoretical investigation of the conventional front-end components illustrates deciencies of current technologies that frustrate the wide-bandwidth design task.
Along with these investigations, possible solutions for wide-bandwidth components design are provided. As nal goals of this dissertation, the new UWB system design has been constructed with a sinusoidal correlator template, and a wide-bandwidth LNA and mixer have been designed. The LNA achieves 0.8 GHz bandwidth, 8.4 dB °at gain over its frequency range, 3 dB noise ¯gure and -6 dBm dynamic range with shunt-series feedback topology. The mixer achieves 13 dB conversion gain, 15 dB noise ¯gure
and -6.3 dB dynamic range using the CS-CG pair as the mixer's transconductance.

Web security can be roughly divided into three parts. First, how are objects and resources named securely? Second, how can secure, authenticated connections be established? Third, what happens when a Web site sends a client a piece of executable code? After looking at some threats, we will examine all these issues.
One reads about Web site security problems in the newspaper almost weekly. The situation is really pretty grim. Let us look at a few examples of what has already happened. First, the home page of numerous organizations has been attacked and replaced by a new home page of the crackers’ choosing. (The popular press calls people who break into computers ‘‘hackers,’’ but many programmers reserve that term for great programmers. We prefer to call these people ‘‘crackers.’’) Sites that have been cracked include Yahoo, the U.S. Army, the CIA,NASA, and the New York Times. In most cases, the crackers just put up some funny text and the sites were repaired within a few hours. Now let us look at some much more serious cases. Numerous sites have been brought down by denial-of-service attacks, in which the cracker floods the site with traffic, rendering it unable to respond to legitimate queries. Often the attack is mounted from a large number of machines that the cracker has already broken into (DDoS atacks). These attacks are so common that they do not even make the news any more, but they can cost the attacked site thousands of dollars in lost business. In 1999, a Swedish cracker broke into Microsoft’s Hotmail Web site and created a mirror site that allowed anyone to type in the name of a Hotmail user and then read all of the person’s current and archived e-mail.
Security is a measurement, not a characteristic. It’s is also an growing problem that requires an continually evolving solution.A good measure of secure application is it’s ability to predict and prevent future security problems, before someone devises an exploit. As far as application design goes, security must be considered at all times (initial spec, implementation, testing and even maintenance)
>A very popular language for web application development
>Easy to learn and adopt. Popular among new learners
>Almost all PHP programs are written for the web
>During development most of us forget one important aspect and that is the security of the application
>Always have a tendency of “do it later”. As a result high possibility of security holes in the system.

Reduced instruction set computers aim for both simplicity in hardware and synergy between architectures and compilers. Optimizing compilers are used to compile programming languages down to instructions that are as unencumbered as micro instructions in a large virtual address space, and to make the instruction cycle time as fast as possible.
As circuit technologies reduce the relative cost of processing and memory, instruction sets that are too complex become a distinct liability to performance. The designers of reduced instruction set computers (RISCs) strive for both simplicity in hardware and synergy between architecture and compilers, in order to streamline processing as much as possible. Early experience indicates that RISCs can in fact run much faster than more conventionally designed machines.
In my lliew, the remaining technical difficulty is how to get good floating-point performance from RISCs. The
RISCs mentioned here have mediocre floating-point performance without special hardware assists. Another
issue is whether RISCs will provide the same advantages in the cost/performance factor for exploratory programming environments such as Lisp and Smalltalk. Initial experiments are promising.
I believe the split between architecture and implementation has caused architects to ignore the implementation consequences of architecture decisions, which has led to “good” architectures with disappointing implementations. Complex architecture requires lengthy. development cycles, and long development cycles using implementation technologies that routinely double in speed and capacity can potentially mean producing a computer in an antiquated technology. RISCs reduce this danger.
